Mes premiers jeux olympiques, premier défi de photographe indépendant engagé par le CIO afin de couvrir l’événementiel du Comité puis les Jeux olympiques.
My first Olympic Games – my first challenge as a freelance photographer commissioned by the IOC to cover the Committee’s events and then the Olympic Games themselves.
l’accréditation CIO exceptionnelle qui m’était octroyée m’autorisait un accès proche des athlètes, aux stades, dans les coulisses des entraînements, salles d’échauffements, village olympique. ceci sans conditions établies, mes choix de lieux et compétitions, je décidais. je me sentais libre, passionné, avec la confiance de Jean-François pahud, directeur du Musée Olympique, qui au retour me proposa ce poste de photographe officel du cio, poste jamais attribué avant.
The special IOC accreditation I was granted allowed me close access to the athletes, in the stadiums, behind the scenes at training sessions, in the warm-up areas and in the Olympic Village. There were no set conditions; I was free to choose where to go and which competitions to cover. I felt free and passionate, and had the confidence of Jean-François Pahud, Director of the Olympic Museum, who, on my return, offered me the post of official IOC photographer – a role that had never been filled before.

It was an instinctive decision to be present on the warm-up track before the 100-metre athletics final. Discover this previously unpublished series of photographs capturing Carl Lewis and Ben Johnson right up to the very last moment, in the appeal room at the gates of the Olympic Stadium, just a few minutes before the famous 100-metre final, before the conclusion of this historic event.
