zoran était un peintre à tous les étages, celui du bâtiment qui retapait des maisons pour vivre avec sa famille, surtout construire LA SIENNE en Macédoine du nord.
We met Zoran in Crete between 2010 and 2013.
Zoran was a painter in every sense of the word – a builder who renovated houses to support his family, and above all to build HIS OWN home in North Macedonia.
comme nombre d’habitants des balkans, il trouve du travail côté Grèce. zoran vient de cette macédoine du nord située entre albanie et kosovo. familier de Paleochora il exposait l’été, comme d’autres artistes, ses créations.
Like many people from the Balkans, he finds work on the Greek side. Zoran comes from North Macedonia, situated between Albania and Kosovo. A regular visitor to Paleochora, he used to exhibit his work there in the summer, like other artists.
toujours à la recherche d’un contact qui pourrait créer l’étincelle plus au nord, là d’où viennent les touristes aujourd’hui. une galerie qui l’acceuillerait pour ses valeurs, non pas comme cette galeriste issue de la lointaine Amérique,qui lui commanda diverses toiles afin de l’exposer aux USA. En finalité il ne retrouva jamais trace de ses tableaux envoyés, ni des promesses pécunières!
always on the lookout for a connection that might spark something further north, where today’s tourists come from. A gallery that would welcome him for his artistic merit, not like that gallery owner from faraway America, who commissioned various paintings from him with a view to exhibiting them in the USA. In the end, he never heard a word about the paintings he’d sent, nor the financial promises!
en 2013 à l’initiative de gerhard stelzhammer, sculpteur établi de longue date à Paleochora, une exposition réunissait nombre d’artistes en différents lieux de la ville. occasion propice d’acquérir une petite peinture vive, flamboyante de mystères la visite de sa soeur à sa mère, très malade, nous a-t-il décrit plus tard.
In 2013, on the initiative of Gerhard Stelzhammer, a sculptor who had long been based in Paleochora, an exhibition brought together a number of artists at various venues around the town. It was a perfect opportunity to acquire a small, vibrant painting, brimming with mystery – a scene depicting his sister visiting their mother, who was very ill, as he later described to us.

Où demeure zoran aujour’hui, définitivement à la maison en Macédoine du Nord, son rêve était d’y retourner, poursuivre sa vie de peintre.
Wherever Zoran lives today – now firmly at home in North Macedonia – his dream was to return there and continue his life as a painter.
