Barbara M est une artiste peintre qui vivait, à l’époque de sa rencontre, début des années nonante, côté sud-ouest de la Crète proche de Paleochora. Elle vivait seule dans une maison traditionnelle non peinte de blanc à Anidri, demeure rustique mais très lumineuse. Barbara M du nom de sa signature avait exposé une série de tableaux à l’huile à l’attention de visiteurs étrangers qui appréciaient déjà retourner en ces lieux magiques de l’île.
Barbara M is a painter who, at the time we met in the early nineties, lived on the south-western coast of Crete, near Paleochora. She lived alone in a traditional house in Anidri that was not painted white – a rustic yet very light-filled home. Barbara M – as she signed her work – had exhibited a series of oil paintings for the benefit of foreign visitors who were already keen to return to these magical spots on the island.
Important de citer que cette rencontre à Anidri fut unique, par la suite nulle trace de Barbara M dans la région, ni souvenir, son âge se situait dans la soixantaine. It is worth noting that this encounter in Anidri was a one-off; subsequently, there was no trace of Barbara M in the region, nor any memory of her; she was in her sixties at the time. Here are two paintings I acquired at that exhibition: a view of olive trees, with the Anidri Gorge below, surrounded by rocks of various colours—dominated by red—which opens out towards the sea. Geza, eyes washed by life.
