l’idée de créer ce carnet non pas de route…d’étape

à l’époque je travaillais à l’Université de lausanne, AVEC titre et fonctions validées AU SEIN D’UNE UNITé CRééE SPéCIFIQUEMENT PAR LE RECTORAT, développeur des collections, soit connaître et porter différentes recherches d’assistan_E_ts et professeur_E_s VERS DES PUBLICS éLARGIS HORS CAMPUS, avec cES APPORTS FULGURANTS DE L’INFORMATIQUE.

Back to square one with my website – 2003 was certainly a creative year.

The idea behind creating this journal was not so much a ‘roadmap’… but rather a ‘milestone’

At the time, I was working at the University of Lausanne, with a title and role approved within a unit specifically created by the Rector’s Office, as a collections developer – that is, to identify and promote various research projects by lecturers and professors to wider audiences off-campus, utilising the remarkable advances in information technology.

J’ai rapidement créé multimusée.ch, noué des contacts auprès de différents musées romands intéressés d’intégrer ce site web, en parallèle des professeur_e_s avisé-e-s me confièrent leurs collections à fin de numérisation, donc logique de diffusion .

Exemple, une collection extraordinaire, dormait faute de moyens pour la diffuser ( pas les originaux à sauvegarder ) d’abord aux étudiants ( pardon mesdames svp je n’indique plus le E entre les tirets ) puis porter ces photographies vers de larges publics, scolaires, également grand public.

Le professeur d’archéologie pierre ducrey et son assistante anne bielman me proposent de découvrir un trésor, des centaines de kodachrome classés soigneusement, numérotés par madame collart, en des boîtes de carton.

I quickly set up multimusée.ch and established contacts with various museums in French-speaking Switzerland interested in joining the website; at the same time, some forward-thinking teachers entrusted me with their collections so that they could be digitised and, consequently, made available to the public.

For example, an extraordinary collection had been lying dormant due to a lack of resources to make it accessible – not the originals, which needed to be preserved – first to students (my apologies, ladies, I no longer include the ‘E’ between the dashes), and then to bring these photographs to a wider audience, including schoolchildren and the general public.

Professor of Archaeology Pierre Ducrey and his assistant Anne Bielman invited me to discover a treasure trove: hundreds of Kodachrome slides, carefully catalogued and numbered by Mrs Collart, stored in cardboard boxes.

Réponse immédiate, oui je pourrais le faire. j’avais un matériel disponible, engagé avec d’autres instituts. pour collart j’ai dit ok avec cette nuance, je proposerai à mon responsable Bahram Zaïpour d’effectuer ce travail de longue haleine durant les longues vacances estudiantines estivales, ainsi en deux années j’avais rendu vie à l’oeuvre de Collart photographe. Par la suite j’espliquais la valeur de ce patrimoine exceptionnel au directeur de l’Institut suisse de la photographie, je lui proposais également que memoriav, qui avait intégré à ma demande, notre unité le Centef à l’époque, assure le financement de digitalisation par l’ ISP.

ainsi fut réalisé ce travail passionnant aux côté de personnalités aux fonctions et engagements multiples.

Direct question from Prof. Ducrey: can you scan them?

My immediate reply was, ‘Yes, I could do that.’ I had the equipment available, which I was already using for work with other institutes. As for Collart, I agreed, with one caveat: I would propose to my supervisor, Bahram Zaïpour, that this long-term project be carried out during the long summer holidays. And so, over the course of two years, I had brought Collart’s photographic work back to life. I subsequently explained the value of this exceptional heritage to the director of the Swiss Institute of Photography; I also suggested that Memoriav – which, at my request, had incorporated our unit, Centef, at the time – should provide funding for the digitisation through the ISP.

And so this fascinating project was carried out alongside individuals with diverse roles and commitments.

Création portée AVEC l’Institution universitaire et mon travail d’une décennie imtégré en la province de sfakia, crète, vers des publics divers.

Back in 2003, at the request of UNIL, I created a virtual exhibition showcasing this heritage from an era of technological discoveries, with an educational focus. This project was developed in collaboration with the university, and incorporated a decade’s worth of my work in the province of Sfakia, Crete, aimed at a diverse audience.

A partnership with the University of Lausanne in 2003, which was abruptly terminated in 2024 following a sudden announcement by Unicom, the University of Lausanne’s communications department, citing ‘current technological incompatibilities’ as the reason for ceasing distribution.
